I did the best I could while focusing on functional aspects. Namely you cant drive with one headlight at nighttime around here, so i spent $25 at the junkyard for the plastic bracket that holds both lights, then slowly reconstructed the front end to be close to the original. I still need to do something about the hood, just haven’t got a friend to help me to remove it and straighten it out.
It’s not too bad, imho. Especially with someone with little to no prior experience with this kind of thing.

Not bad! I'd look at row52 or a similar junkyard database for yards that have a car in the same color you can snag parts from.

What? I didn’t say anything?

As an IT technician and a frequent repairer of junk cars. The principles of troubleshooting, prep, and being methodical still apply.

Considering the before shot from the other day, I’d say that looks damn good.

I think of it as just multi
ple parts bolted together. Therefore it’s not as overwhelming as it first appears.

But you thought it Jim, which is just as bad.

I have black zipties ready to replace the white ones, I just need to drill larger holes to do so. The temperature dropped like 30 degrees from earlier in the week. I just did the bare minimum for now.

Didn’t expect it, but the plastic
bumper
bracket (which shattered before), gave the front bumper it’s form. It was just a matter of aligning everything up and putting in the screws.

Not bad I’ve driven worse. Impressed the hood stays closed.

Local junkyard just happened to have the exact color car with the parts needed on it too. But it came down to funds. I know RockAuto, pricing it out for all new parts, would be about $300~. I think first I’m going to see if I can bend the hood back
, see if that is salvageable.

I’m surprised
too. Really surprised. Also super impressed by the beating this car takes. Once this one dies (err, when
I let it die), I might look into getting a second one. For the price and the features, it isn’t a bad deal.

Winter is coming and you will be driving it in the dark anyway. If money is tight, I say good enough....

I see alot of them. It's always a plus buying the same model a second time.

Would the Hood not be like 50$ at the junk yard?

My main annoyance was finding time to get the part and doing the repairs.

Didn’t get a chance to ask, but the front bumper was $125, and that isn’t made of metal.
![]() 10/07/2019 at 00:29 |

The bumper is made of metal with usually a foam thing cover. The bumper cover/skin is plastic.

Just called them, the hood is $100 where i live.

That is one expensive Junkyard, you-pull aswell? But that sounds like some bashing of the hood is in order
![]() 10/07/2019 at 09:52 |

I usually pull the part
because if they pull the
part its an additional cost.
